Adeptus Mechanicus Research Station

Hello folks. I just finished a small Admech research station for our Badab War campaign. This little outpost sports reinforced walls, environmentally sealed windows, and a Astropath communication relay. A small garrison of Skitarri is stationed here to protect the Admech team sent to Bellerophon's Fall to research the feasibility of reclaiming the dead world for Mars.

Like the previous few buildings, this conversion is based on the Armorcast stucco buildings. These really make great building foundations.

Here are the pics.  Hope you enjoy!

Sci Fi Generator

Howdy folks! Up next from the terrain project is a power generator I finished the other day. This piece was made from the barrel of one of my son's toy laser guns. He kindly donated it to me to use as a terrain piece (though I had to promise to replace it with a new Nerf gun). I had plans to make it light up. A quick trip to the craft store and I came away with a color changing LED light, which I thought looked pretty cool. Here's the result! The rest of the parts are made by me from plasticard and wire.

More Armorcast Stucco Buildings!

Hello folks. Back again with more Armorcast converted and painted stucco buildings. I love these models. Such a nice blank slate for making all kinds of sci fi buildings. I now have three completed and have three more to paint up. They should fill up the table nicely when they are done. I want to some day put in interior walls and details, but that will have to wait. I really need to get as much sci fi scenery up and running for our Badab War campaign. My friend Rob is painting up Badab forces for Epic and we are slowly assembling the fleets for games of Battlefeleet Gothic. More Mantis Warriors and Fire Hawks will be on the way once these buildings are done.

Here's the pics!

Armorcast Building Conversion and Warhammer 40,000 Scatter Terrain.

Long time no post! I've been busy with summer stuff (kids and work) and so haven't been able to post much lately. But, I finished up some more Warhammer 40,000 scenery. I've been in need of some intact buildings to fill out the urban terrain selection. I have always loved the Armorcast Stucco building range. I owned a ton of them many years ago and when I got into historicals, I sold them to fund other projects. I wish I hadn't done that, as I just recently remembered why I liked them so much...they are super versatile. I spent a few hours adding some bits of plastic and rivets to give the building a nice grim dark feel without resorting to skulls and gothic windows. These will work in any near modern or sci fi setting and will add greater variety to my already established town of Rustopolis.

Here are some pics of the building before and after paint. Also, I finished some rusty metal barricades together as well to fill out the table and some barrels to go with them. The last pic is of a plastic basket I picked up at Target for $1 and turned into a greenhouse or open skylight type building. What the heck, it was cheap, right?

After conversion, before paint.

I used corrugated plastic for the window shutters, leaving some of them open.

Here is the rust effect applied as per my post about the colors and technique I used.

Done!

Shanty Town Barricades.

Quick update on the Shanty Town project. To add some more detail (and cover) for the town, I built the first of a set of barricades. I want to make a bunch of these to really give that cluttered feel to the town.

Here are the first two. They came together really quickly with just scrap plastic sheet, rod, barrels, and strips.

Shanty Town, Generator, and Power Pylon.

The shanty town is really coming together. I only have two more smaller buildings to convert and paint and it should be complete. After that I want to work up a bunch of incidental terrain pieces to go with it: barricades of scrap metal, catwalks, rusted burn barrels, crates and boxes, etc.

Here are some pics of the buildings together in a scene to give an idea of what the end result should look like. I am going for a really cramped and fortified town look for this. I might end up needing to make more buildings from scratch to expand the town and do some walls as well. But that's for another day...

Here are some pics:

Here are some pics of the power generator and power pylon I built. If they look familiar it is because they are made to look like the Quantum Gothic generator and pylon. I made these because at the time they had been out of business and I was unable to buy them. I liked the design so much I decided to build them myself. Apparently they are now back in business again. I hope to pick up their generator now that it is available again to add to mine. Mine is much bigger than the one they offered because I had a plastic container that was the perfect shape...just bigger.

Here they are:

Here is my pylon in raw plastic before I painted it:

More to come!
